Your recordings stay on your phone. Here is what that costs.

Nightsong never uploads your sleep audio. That choice has real trade-offs: no cloud backup of audio, limits on re-scoring old nights, and phone battery.

A phone resting face down on a wooden nightstand in low amber light, its charging cable trailing off the edge.

Nightsong™ listens to you sleep. That is a real act of trust, and we built the product around one line that never moves: your sleep audio never leaves your phone. The listening, the math, and the morning number all happen on the device in your hand. Your recordings are never uploaded. There is no cloud copy of your audio, and no server holds a night of your sound.

That is the promise. This page is about the price, because every design choice has one, and you deserve to know it before you trust us with your nights.

What stays on the phone

Every recording, all of the audio analysis, and your nightly Somnus Index™ live on your phone and only your phone. When you open your night and tap Snore to listen to your loudest moments, you are playing clips stored on the device. How a phone can do all that work locally is explained in how a phone measures a night without sending it anywhere, and the step-by-step scoring is in how the Somnus Index works.

What can leave, and only if you say so

There is one opt-in. If you tap Share and help improve Nightsong, then after the phone makes your Index, a summary of a few numbers from that night, such as minutes of snoring, breathing steadiness, and your score, travels to our own locked storage. No name, no email, and no account handle rides with those numbers. Never a recording. Tap Not now, keep it fully private, and nothing goes. You can change your mind any time under You, then About, then Sharing choice.

If you join the waitlist, we keep your email so we can reach you. It is never joined to your sleep data.

The Village™: sharing with people you choose

The Village is how you share your nights with people you invite. It shares only five things: your name, hours, score, snore number, and breathing rhythm. Only the people you invite see them. Recordings are never part of it.

The cost, part one: no cloud backup of your audio

Because your audio never leaves the phone, there is no copy of it anywhere else. If your phone is lost, stolen, or erased, the audio on it goes with it. We cannot restore it, because we never had it.

Snore clips also do not pile up forever. Your loudest moments auto-clear after 7 nights. If there is a night you want to remember, listen to it that week.

The cost, part two: limits on re-scoring old nights

Cloud services can keep your raw data and re-run it every time their software improves. We cannot do that with your audio, because we do not hold it. When the engine on your phone gets better in an update, it works on the nights it hears from then on. There is no server copy of last spring to send back through it. Your history is the history your phone scored at the time.

We think that is the right trade. It does mean your trend is a record of what was measured when it happened, not a document we can rewrite later.

The cost, part three: your phone does the work

A server farm does not do the heavy lifting here. Your phone does. Listening and analyzing for a whole night is real work, so keep the listening phone plugged in, and skip video or heavy apps on it overnight. If you see no number in the morning, a dead battery is one of the most common reasons.

Storage is the phone’s too. The optional Enhanced explanations download, which brings richer plain-word reads of your nights, is about 400 MB, Wi-Fi only, and it stays on the phone. Everything else Nightsong keeps lives on the device as well.

Why we pay these costs

Because a recording of you sleeping is about as personal as data gets, and the safest copy is the one that never exists. The sensitive layer never travels, and what travels carries no name. We did not invent that pattern. We just refused to ship without it.

If privacy is why you are here, you may also like how to track snoring and breathing privately on your iPhone. The short factual version lives on Nightsong at a glance. The beta is full right now, so join the list and we will reach out when a spot opens.
